Wall Street Journal has dropped some pretty big news regarding what’s next for Nintendo with regards to its mobile titles. So far we’ve had a miss (Tomo-whatever) and a big hit (Super Mario Run) but it’s what’s next that might change the game, as they say.
Citing anonymous sources, the Wall Street Journal has reported that The Legend of Zelda will be getting the smartphone treatment in the near future. With Breath of the Wild being such a huge success, a title on a mobile device that played off of that in some way could be huge.
The report states that the Zelda based title will follow on the heels of the upcoming Animal Crossing game that is in the works. We have no idea when Animal Crossing is hitting mobile storefronts as it keeps getting pushed back, but hope is that we will see it sometime this summer.
If you remember back, Nintendo stated that it would release five mobile titles by March of this year, but the company revised its plans opting to take things a little slower. That seems to have paid off as Super Mario Run was pretty well-received after the middling social game that everyone stopped playing after a month or two.
Whatever happens, if the game has the Zelda branding it’s going to make a butt-load of cash.
