Nintendo NX coming March 2017 Zelda pushed into next year

Nintendo NX

This news coming from the Nintendo Facebook states that the next Nintendo console, dubbed NX will hit March 2017. Nintendo was very coy regarding the news with on a single sentence making the huge announcement. Stranger still is the fact that the Nintendo NX seems to be the official name of the console, even if many of us thought it was simply a codename.

Speculation ran rampant the pat few weeks that the NX would launch as early as this summer, with a holiday release being the safer bet. While a March 2017 release places the console in a slow period for game sales (giving Nintendo the spotlight) it also means that the company will miss the lucrative Christmas season.

Nintendo stated via their just released financial report that, “For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed ‘NX’ with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.”

Other news of concern is that the next Legend of Zelda game has also been pushed back into 2017. No word on the reasoning, but it can be inferred that the game will be a launch title for the Nintendo NX. Sad to see two major Nintendo things miss out this holiday.

The Nintendo CEO also came out as stated that the NX won’t simply replace 3DS and WiiU and instead be a part of the family. This is really strange news as Wii U ownership never really caught on, so the idea of two home consoles from the same company makes little sense.
