Really just an update-type of thing.
Nintendo did not announce rerelease of Super Smash Bros. Melee. That is all.
… okay, fine. Amid the heaps of Pokémon and Mario updates, there were a few things that could get lost in the shuffle. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is not one of those things, getting a nearly 9 minute showcase out of the 45 minute presentation:
There were some Atlus announcements, namely that Radiant Historia is getting an updated release on 3DS, along with Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. More importantly, they have a new game titled Journey West, set to capture the style of older JRPG’s.
As an aside, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is getting an updated rerelease. It has some Amiibo functionality, as well. But the big news is that it has a new mode centered around Bowser’s minions.
We also got a pretty good look at Octopath Traveler, from the team responsible for Bravely Default. It looks gorgeous, since they’ve gone out of their way to meld 2 separate visual styles to make it. Much like the Bravely games, it’ll probably be a pretty good Final Fantasy game. SE also has Lost Sphear coming, which looks to also take things back to an earlier generation, gameplay-wise.
Another cool bit of news is that they’re starting to port over the old Nintendo arcade games, starting with Mario Bros. They’re also making a special Mario Party game: Mario Party: The Top 100. It’ll contain the best mini games from across the series. Which means probably very few from 1; that sucker destroyed control sticks.
A few smaller announcements:
- Bethesda loves money- I mean Skyrim. Also, DOOM and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are coming to Nintendo Switch.
- Resident Evil Revelaitons 1 and 2 are coming to Switch.
- Dragon Quest Builders is coming to Switch.
- Minecraft for the 3DS (who cares)
- Fire Emblem Warriors is pretty much going to be centered on the popular installments. Coming for both Switch and 3DS.
Finally, they had a host of Kirby info. Kirby Battle Royale is coming for the 3DS. We also got a peek at Kirby Star Allies, which showed off the fact that you can combine companion powers. Finally, they have a Kirby Copy Power poll going on to determine everyone’s favorite copy power overall.
They wrapped things up with some Mario Odyssey.
So all in all, not much actually new in this Nintendo Direct. I don’t know why it was hyped so much. Still, it showed off a lot of the stuff I like.
