Nintendo and Dena partner for mobile games

Nintendo and Dena

We’ve head the rumblings that the house that Mario built was planning some sort of venture into the mobile market. They have tread carefully so as to not diminish the role of their hardware, especially the 3DS, but it seems that has finally changed. Nintendo and Dena (Final Fantasy Record Keeper) have just announced a partnership to put out all original IPs to the mobile market.

The partnership also states that Dena will have access to all of Nintendo’s intellectual property meaning the company is able to explore all Nintendo first-party characters and franchises. Nintendo on the other hand is hoping that these new mobile titles will bring in new players that will then in turn move onto official Nintendo hardware.

This deal is a pretty massive undertaking and a lot of money and stock is being thrown around. Nintendo is set to acquire 15,081,000 shares of DeNA stock (about %10) for just over $181 million dollars. DeNA will also make out as they will acquire the same value in Nintendo stock. These two companies aren’t just making games together, but will depended on each others success to  make money.

Dena will also be building a new type of membership portal for Nintendo. As Club Nintendo has gone the way of the Dodo, Nintendo really needs something and Dena will be providing just that. No word yet on the details for this program ,or if it will come stateside.
