Live the good life in the off-world colonies!
Blade Runner 2049 is coming out this October. So to lead up to that, the film’s director (Dennis Villenueve) got three other directors to produce shorts covering the interim between the original film and the sequel. The first of these, 2036: Nexus Dawn, is up now.
As these shorts are meant to set up the film, they introduce us to several of the characters. In this case Niander Wallace (Jared Leto), a replicant manufacturer. And, moreover, his creation: a replicant that can feel pain, yet is incapable of rebellion.
The short namedrops a number of things which will be important in the sequel. Primarily, a replicant technology ban, and a disaster called “The Blackout”. But possibly the most interesting thing about the short is its director: Luke Scott, the son of Blade Runner‘s original director, Ridley Scott.
Blade Runner 2049 releases in theaters on October 6th.
