With extra modules on the way.
The modular phone thing has fought something of an uphill battle. Motorola’s Moto Z line hasn’t exactly been flying off of store shelves. But Bay Area-based startup Vibes Modular is betting that the sort of people that spend nearly $1000 on a new phone based on brand name might buy into a modular case system.
That said, the case also works for non-modular Android phones that fit it. The case already has two modules available; a Bluetooth speaker, and an external charger. The speaker is waterproof, contains a microphone for conference calls, and has a battery life of up to 12 hours. The charger, according to Vibes Modular, is compatible with 30 different phones, and can charge a phone “up to three times”. It also comes with a micro USB port to allow you to charge other devices. There are also plans for a projector module and a drone module.
The base case is going for $40 and comes in black or white. The speaker and charger modules cost $100 and $200, respectively. And if you’re interested in the projector and drone attachments, they should be out later this year.
