Takes place in “same universe” as the previous reboot.
Rumor has floated around as to what the new Battlestar Galactica series in development over at NBC would be. Speculation about the series, headed by Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail, was that it would, itself, be a reboot. But Esmail took to Twitter last year to reveal that’s not the case:
And now, the reboot series’ Ronald D. Moore has confirmed that Esmail was not only playing straight with the audience, bu with him as well. From a recent interview with Variety about his series, Outlander:
“Sam called me and was very gracious, he didn’t pitch me the story so I don’t know,” he said. “But he said his plans and he wasn’t going to re-start the show and recast it but he wanted to do something in the same universe. Sam’s amazing and I love ‘Mr. Robot.’ I was like, you know, ‘You’re an amazing guy and amazing writer, go with god!’”
Well, that’s nice and all. But my question is why?! Not why, as in, “why does NBC want this show for Peacock”, because that answer is obvious: They need a scifi show as part of their initial lineup. My queston is why you’d make it part of the reboot’s canon? Sure, it was a huge draw when it ran in 2004, but the ending is so apocalyptically bad that I was personally surprised they even bothered trying to make Caprica in the first place. Seriously, the last episode, and in particular that ending, is so bad, that most people just don’t feel the need to care about anything else that happens in that universe.
Well, whatever. This new Battlestar Galactica series will be part of NBC’s Peacock service’s 2020 lineup, alongside Will Forte’s MacGruber and Zack Morris is Trash the new Saved by the Bell series.
