Netflix just announced that they will produce a prequel to the Jim Henson classic The Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set to run for 10 episodes. And I’d guess a whole lot of high quality puppet-based practical effects will be involved. Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk, The Transporter) has been tapped to direct and executive produce the series.
Netflix’s official description of the series is as follows: “When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.” Despite the fact that the series is aimed at families, it’s nice to know they won’t be sugar coating the harder, darker parts of the story. That’s what made many films from the 80’s so memorable, after all.
There’s no word on when the The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will drop. But I’m sure they’ll do right by Jim Henson’s legacy. The Dark Crystal was one of the films of which he was most proud
