I blame Mr. Fish.
It seems the Power Man was no match for cancellation. In a joint announcement on Friday, Netflix and Marvel announced that Luke Cage wouldn’t be getting a third season.
Unfortunately,Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.
The news isn’t terribly surprising in the wake of Iron Fist‘s cancellation. It’s not hard to imagine that all of these Marvel shows on Netflix won’t be getting another season, actually. While Season 3 of Daredevil just premiered, that may be due to the fact that it was already in production by the time these decisions were being made. That said, a third season of Jessica Jones is still seemingly on the way, as is a second season of The Punisher.
Overall, however, those may be the last gasps of the Disney/Netflix partnership that made them possible. But that doesn’t mean that these shows are over, necessarily. With Disney’s streaming service looming large on the horizon, it’s hard to imagine these series failing to get transplanted.
