MultiVersus Ends Open Beta And Closes Down, Will Launch Proper In 2024

MultiVersus

Gosh, ain’t I a stinker?

Chances are, you haven’t been playing Multiversus recent of late. So you might be surprised to find that the game, which popped up July last year, was in fact only in open beta. And even more so, that they’re closing the game down for roughly a year, to relaunch in 2024.

Apparently, a lot of people just breezed through those menus the first time you started the game up, though, because the game does clearly state that it was in open beta.

There are also no few number of people noticing that including monetization in an open beta is kind of… wrong. Notably, anyone that paid $100 for the premium pack is kind of getting shafted for a year.

Regardless, Player First Games did some excellent work over the course of the beta. Director Tony Huynh sent the following tweet out, thanking the playerbase for their support.

Notably, the big things touched on in the video were account progression, netcode, and matchmaking improvements (all of which were reasons I and likely many others stopped playing the beta).

To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.

The good news is that you’ll still have access to any cosmetics you have, as well as access to the training room and local matches. It’s just that all online functionality will fundamentally be turned off until the relaunch.

This is, however, probably the best thing for the game in general. Player First did great work on the game, but they struggled to keep up with the playerbase’s hunger for new content and features. Hopefully, it’ll be even better when it relaunches next year.
