Monster Energy Sues Everybody Over The Use Of The Word Monster

Monster

Take Two!

Remember a year and some change ago, when Take Two Interactive went and trolled everybody whose IP or business somehow incorporated the words “Take Two”? Well, Monster Energy (which is owned by the Coca Cola Company) is doing much the same now. To anybody using the word “Monster”.

How fucking asinine.

In particular, people most noticed this when an indie developer, Glowstick Entertainment, received a lawsuit from the energy drink company, which claimed trademark infringement over Glowstick’s game, Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals.

Notably, Mr. Livings tendered a counter offer which is entirely reasonable, given what Monster Energy actually owns. Monster’s legal team naturally rejected this, because it was reasonable. As such, Mr. Livings plans to fight them in court over their trademark trolling.

You’re doing God’s work, sir.

But Glowstick is far from the only group in Monster’s crosshairs. Metalworkers who use signs that vaguely look similar to the Monster Energy logo? Small businesses? Hell, Ubisoft’s Immortals: Fenyx Rising was originally named Gods & Monsters before a lawsuit from Monster Energy was settled out of court. They are very litigious. This even includes the likes of Capcom’s Monster Hunter series and the Pokémon franchise, as the games go by the name Pocket Monsters in Japan.
