Minecraft Project PolyMC At Center Of Shitstorm After Key Dev Removes Most Of Team And Code Of Conduct

Minecraft

And no brown bricks were built that day.

Recently drama has spiked with the Minecraft launcher project PolyMC. The lead developer kicked everyone else off of the project for “promoting radicalist leftist queer ideology” according to GamingOnLinux.

For those not in the know, PolyMC is a “custom launcher for Minecraft that allows you to easily manage multiple installations of Minecraft at once (Fork of MultiMC)”. In essence, it managed multiple modified versions of Minecraft for you on a single machine. This purge has, of course, triggered the expected response.

Essentially, all he did was remove a large section of the code of conduct. The code of conduct contained provisions aimed at protecting project users and participants from transphobic, homophobic, and racist abuse. And claims that this came out of the blue are fairly suspect, considering the guy that currently controls the project posted about removing this stuff from the document way back in May of this year.

I, personally, have no clue what the fuck that all has to do with Minecraft.

The dev, LennyMcLennington, has gone on record via Discord that despite your perception of him personally, there is nothing malicious in the program, nor is there any plans to include malware in the program. He’s also “seeing if anyone is interested in contributing” to the project. Current climate probably make the likelihood of that fairly low.

The developers Lenny kicked out, meanwhile, have formed a new project, PrismLauncher.

I don’t give a shit about Minecraft, so this is all Greek to me.
