Under the bus, I’d say.
You may recall how, earlier this year, QA workers at Raven aimed to form a union. And you might remember how they set a time frame for recognition by Activision Blizzard. Well, that time came and went, and Activision Blizzard never recognized the union. Not like they needed recognition, but it would’ve been… magnanimous of AB to do so.
Coincidentally, the union formed just as Microsoft bought the company. And this week, per the Washington Post, 15 Raven workers signed a letter sent to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, which requested Microsoft to nudge Activision Blizzard in the right direction. In addition, the letter also takes aim at Activision Blizzard’s law firm Reed Smith for having anti-union rhetoric on their site.
I hope that you will agree that this demeaning and insulting approach to employees who are seeking to improve their workplace should not be tolerated.
Raven Workers letter
Microsoft’s corporate vice president and general counsel, Lisa Tanzi, said to the Washington Post that Microsoft “will not stand in the way” of Activision Blizzard’s recognition of the union. In addition:
Microsoft respects Activision Blizzard employees’ right to choose whether to be represented by a labor organization and we will honor those decisions.
Lisa Tanzi
And now it’s firmly on Activision Blizzard. They can either recognize the union and eat crow (or, perhaps, raven?), or they can continue to have everybody treat them like an ongoing nuclear disaster.
