This ought to work out well for them.
Microsoft has been in the process of revamping their End-User License Agreements for their many properties, including Xbox and Skype. The update goes live on May 1st.
And it has one sadly vague sticking point in the Code of Conduct. “Offensive language” can earn you a ban. From the summary of the changes Microsoft put up here:
“In the Code of Conduct section, we’ve clarified that use of offensive language and fraudulent activity is prohibited. We’ve also clarified that violation of the Code of Conduct through Xbox Services may result in suspensions or bans from participation in Xbox Services, including forfeiture of content licenses, Xbox Gold Membership time, and Microsoft account balances associated with the account.”
Section iv of the Code of Conduct doesn’t actually make things any clearer:
“Don’t publicly display or use the Services to share inappropriate content or material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence, or criminal activity).”
Well, shit. They completely fucking failed to let us know exactly what the hell they mean by “offensive language”. Does telling an irritating asshole to fuck off make you eat a ban? I don’t know, because the rest of that shit is pretty straightforward, but “offensive language” is legally so goddamn broad, they may as well decide to ban you at fuckin’ random.
On the plus side, at least the bans and EULA don’t affect Xbox Live, so there’s that. I guess until we get some clarification, watch your fuckin’ language.
