Microsoft shutting down Zune services (what!?)

Zune

Excuse me while I check the date to make sure I didn’t wake up back in 2008. No? Well, okay then.

Who here reading this remembers the Zune? Okay, that one hipster guy can put their hand down. For the rest of you, the Zune was Microsoft’s attempt to dive headfirst into the MP3 player market and compete against Apple.

Remember MP3 players… Okay, enough with the jokes, just let me put down my RIO and get back to being serious.

Apparently the Zune services have been online, but Microsoft this week released a support note to Zune users warning them that it plans to end Zune services on November 15th. I’m not sure if they have been actively supporting the Zune, or if someone in the IT department found out they were still running it, unbeknownst to anyone.

Still, it is pretty cool that the Zune services have been running for such a long time since the death of the Zune so many years ago. While you may no longer be able to stream music and whatever else a Zune does, you will still be able to use it as, you know, an MP3 player if you want.
