Microsoft Loses Out To Oracle For TikTok’s US Operations

TikTok

It’s okay, Microsoft. TikTok’s trash anyway.

You or I might recognize TikTok as being a hideous video hosting site that should rightfully be cleansed from the face of the Earth by nuclear fire. But for some reason, large corporations consider it a viable business, enough to want to take over its US operations by purchasing the company. Well, while Microsoft was in the race to pick up the site known for having a number of frankly awful videos, they seem to have lost that race, as confirmed by a recent blog post. Said post reads:

ByteDance let us know today they would not be selling TikTok’s US operations to Microsoft. We are confident our proposal would have been good for TikTok’s users, while protecting national security interests. To do this, we would have made significant changes to ensure the service met the highest standards for security, privacy, online safety, and combatting disinformation, and we made these principles clear in our August statement. We look forward to seeing how the service evolves in these important areas.

Per the Washington Post, the company that won out is Oracle… well, technically. According to anonymous sources speaking to the Post, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, made a convincing argument to the US government that allowing Oracle to handle the cloud management would satisfy security concerns, allowing the Chinese ByteDance to retain ownership of TikTok.

And to think, the world was this close to being rid of TikTok. Shame.
