Microsoft is killing off Microsoft Paint in next major Windows 10 update

Microsoft Paint is dead. Long live Microsoft Paint.

It truly is the end of an era as Microsoft is killing of Microsoft Paint. Anyone that has used a Windows PC in their lifetime has used the free image editing software. But now Microsoft is listing Paint as a “deprecated feature” which means they will not continue to actively develop the program and see it removed in an upcoming update.

Look, I haven’t used Microsoft Paint in ages as we use Photoshop in the office, but even at home there are so many other free programs that do far more than Microsoft Paint can handle. I’ve been personally use Pixlr for ages.

While most people under the age of twenty haven’t ever opened the application, it’s been a Microsoft mainstay since the very first Windows OS launched with Windows 1.0 back in 1985. That means Microsoft Paint is my age and that makes me feel some sort of way. Mostly old.

But don’t think this is the end of image software from Microsoft as the company is simply making room to better promote the efforts they are putting into Paint 3D, the new version of what Microsoft Paint used to be, and the old paint might stick around as the is to definite timetable on removal from the Windows OS.

Where the real sadness lies is in the fact we are going to miss out on some amazing(ly bad) art include the Microsoft Paint masterpieces from Ringo Star.

And this.

Oh, and just what is going to happen to that weird Sonic the Hedgehog art community that essentially took over most of the Microsoft Pint art on the internet?
