Kind of a big deal.
News has been swirling around the potential purchase of Obsidian Entertainment by Microsoft. Which, naturally, would be a big deal for both of them. Microsoft has been trying to pump up their first party scene, and this would be a good acquisition to that end. Whereas Obsidian could definitely benefit from MS’s deep pockets.
According to sources close to the deal speaking to Kotaku, the deal is at 90%, and alternatively, “a matter of when, not if”.
Both are, however, tight-lipped on the prospective deal. A Microsoft spokesperson simply stated:
We do not comment on rumors or speculation.
Whereas Obsidian took a much more playful approach:
Unfortunately, we don’t comment on rumors or speculation other than to say that the Rumors album by Fleetwood Mac still holds up.
Which, you know, is objectively true. You still hear songs from it used in film and TV.
But as to the deal, we’re probably at that critical point. it’s not unheard of for things to fall apart at the 11th hour. But, chances are this merger is going through.
