Metroid: Samus Returns Amiibo Contains Extra Game Content

Metroid: Samus Returns

Getting your hands on one is going to be a nightmare, isn’t it?

Okay, this news is somewhat dated at this point, but it was shaky before. As it turns out, that Metroid: Samus Returns Amiibo you’re thirsting after? It contains bonus content, like a hard mode for the game and a bunch of other goodies like Energy Tanks and map stuff.

But it’s not just the Samus and Metroid Amiibos that unlock this sort of content in the game. The previous Samus Amiibos made for Super Smash Bros. also unlock some game content in much the same way. Which means that buying the game (MSRP $40, natch) will wind up costing less than buying all four Amiibos if you don’t already have the older ones. Thankfully, the two new ones are to be sold in a pack together, but come on, you’re obsessive about this stuff, you’re going to toss money at this. At least the content is mostly evenly distributed between the four:

  • Samus Aran Amiibo
    • Extra Energy Tank
    • Metroid 2 Art Gallery (upon game completion)
  • Metroid Amiibo
    • Reveals All Metroids On Map
    • Fusion Difficulty Mode (upon game completion)
    • Metroid Fusion Skin (upon game completion)
  • Super Smash Bros. Samus
    • Extra Missile Tank
    • Samus Returns Concept Art Gallery (upon game completion)
  • Super Smash Bros. Zero Suit Samus
    • Extra Missile Tank
    • Samus Returns BGM Jukebox Mode (upon game completion)

Overall, the older Amiibos only hold a bit of content compared to the new ones. Still, the split is going to make it hard to find all of them. And the fact that there’s to be a Special Edition of the game with a bunch of goodies as well really drives up the cost you’ll probably be sinking into this if you want everything. Still, we’re a little ways off from Metroid: Samus Returns’ release date of September 15, so who knows what other curve balls they’re gonna toss?
