Meta Quest Pro VR Headset Gets Left In A Hotel Room

You know how this song and dance go.

Ah, there truly is a history of things that shouldn’t get left in random places being absentmindedly abandoned. From the iPhone 4 that was left in a bar to the more recent Google Pixel Watch left in a restaurant, there have been many such incidents of prototypes being forgotten in a public place. And heads roll every time. Well, now we can add the upcoming Meta Quest Pro VR headset to the mix.

This time, the device in question was left behind in a hotel room. At which point, it was found by hotel worker Ramiro Cardenas, who realized exactly what he’d found. At which point, he set to work uploading photos of the box to the Oculus Quest 2 Facebook group (that’s right, on their own site). The packaging not only contained the Meta Quest Pro branding, but also a sticker that reads “NOT FOR RESALE – ENGINEERING SAMPLE“.

Cardenas was not, however, done teabagging Meta on this. He recorded an unboxing video and uploaded it to the same group. The video not only show that the headset has 5 external cameras, but also uses cameras on the controllers rather than the tracking rings of previous models. Later Zectariuz Gaming posted that not only does the box include a charging dock, but that the headset and its accoutrements had been returned to their rightful owner.

There’s a high chance that the nameless Meta employee will at minimum enjoy a good raking over the coals for this (though this is probably “you’re fired” territory). Cardenas himself might not be doing too well in the long run, either; most hotels have policies regarding going through guest’s personal effects. If the hotel finds out that he not only took something from a guest’s room, but filmed himself opening it up and put it on the internet, he’s probably going to be looking for a new job soon.

Of course, there’s also the possibility that this was a plant, in which case the entire previous paragraph is pointless. But hey, nobody’s perfect.
