Medievil remaster hides “native” PS1 emulator

Hackers are a wonderful bunch of mad lads who dig up all sorts of things that developers try to hide away. The latest thing they have dug up is in relation to the PS1 and PS4.

We know the power of the PS4 but many have wondered why PS1 titles aren’t readily available on the console when they were on the PS3. It’s bugged a lot of people, myself included. But now it looks like you can play PS1 games on the PS4 thanks to the Medievil remake.

Apparently, the remaster hid a native PS1 emulator inside the code. This makes a lot of sense as the game wasn’t rebuilt for the PS4, instead, it was simply the PS1 game with heavily updated graphics. Some people loved it and some people were annoyed that all the problems from the original still existed.

But now, thanks to the game, fans can play PS1 titles on the PS4, and all because Sony was a little lax with checking their firmware updates. You see, a new update that Sony released just happened to permit hackers to poke around the normally closed off back end of the remaster.

The originally idea was to allow fans of the game to access the original PS1 game once they completed a specific in-game goal. This allows hackers to play other PS1 games on the system and also means that Sony has their own PS1 emulator that they designed.

That being said, this isn’t a magic bullet that will allow you to play your games on PS4. While hackers have shown other games to be running through the emulator, many of them are in rough shape. This is because the emulator found was built for Medievil and not for general use with other PS1 titles.
