Mattel is Making a Sequel to Uno Called… Dos

Uno

How very clever.

Uno is one of those practically indispensable party games. It has simple, easy to follow rules, and anyone can pick up and play. It’s been so successful that it’s had many spin-offs, too. Uno Dice, Uno Attack, hell, in Japan there’s even a One Piece-themed version of the game. So it’s no surprise that Mattel would want to safely branch out with the brand. That’s where the “sequel” of sorts, comes in: Dos.

What’s the difference? Well, it keeps most of the rules of Uno, with one big difference: there’s two piles of cards, and you can throw down two cards on your turn.

Now there’s one obvious problem with naming your Uno sequel by the numerical conventions the original drew its title from. That would be nerds, in conjunction with the all caps typeface used on the entire brand. They’re going to see nothing but DOS, and that will confuse them.

According to ComicBook.com (my source for all of this scintillating card game information):

“Dos has been in development for 2 years, and Ray Adler, head of Mattel Inc’s games unit, is quite happy with the just about final product. “We’re happy where we are with Dos right now,” Adler said. “It took two years to develop Dos, mainly to make sure playing the game was different enough from Uno. But don’t expect to see Tres anytime soon.”

The game will launch in March at Target stores across the country, with the game reaching all stores that will sell it by August of this year. It’ll retail for $5.99. Which is an excellent price for driving your computer nerd friends insane. And remember: don’t copy that floppy.
