RADIOACTIVE SPIDERPANTS

Looks like that Spider-Man DLC everyone was waiting for in Marvel’s Avengers won’t have any bespoke story missions for ol’ Webhead. Double disappointing, as the updates for other characters, like Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, and Black Panther did.

Oh, but don’t worry; Avengers’ Spider-Man: With Great Power does have a story. You can unlock audio logs and cutscenes by completing challenges that are added to the regular regular Avengers Initiative multiplayer missions. The story is about Spidey uncovering a plot by AIM to upgrade the synthoid army.

Speaking to IGN, Avengers’ Gameplay Director, Philippe Therien, explained the direction:

We want to spend our efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, so we chose to spend a lot of our energy on the Klaw raid that’s coming up at the same time.

Really that’s a simple decision for us. Spider-Man can play all the content, but then we release a piece of content that’s good on all platforms. Really that was a decision that’s been that way since the beginning.

To wit, it’s not even being marketed the same as the above mentioned previous character DLC; rather, it’s a “Hero Event”. You get some cosmetics some lore, the character, we dance,we kiss, we schmooze, we carry on, we go home happy.

I can’t help but feel the talent at Crystal Dynamics is wasted on this. Good job, Square Enix.
