Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite has no X-Men because “Fans Don’t Remember Them”

The most obvious line of bullshit this year.

Chances are good that at this point, you’ve heard that there aren’t any X-Men characters in Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite. You probably thought, just like everyone else, that it was due to the back and forth spite war between Marvel and 20th Century Fox. Well, apparently we were all wrong. No, according to Capcom producers Pete Rosas and Michael Evans in a recent GameSpot Interview, fans simply don’t remember them.

Then the third one is obviously the popularity of these characters. X was one we had to get in there. A lot of fans wanted to see X, so we brought him back. Then also we talked with Marvel very closely about their future roadmap, about what’s gonna be happening. Your modern Marvel fan, maybe they don’t even remember some of the X-Men characters, but they know some of the Guardians characters or Black Panther. You know what I mean? Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she’s fantastic. She fits the gameplay. She fits the story, and they’re gonna be really pushing her as a strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We’re trying to take everything into account and choose the best characters.

Fuckin’, really? I mean, it’s not like there are still movies being made. You know, like that one called Lorganne about that brown spandex dude getting old and escorting Shadman’s child bride* across the country. Or Ninja Spider-Man, released to much praise and ostensibly an X-Men related movie. No one will ever remember Insane Clown Posse Magical Metal Mover Man, despite the many memes. Monoclops, Gene Gray, Coldguy, Rouge, Monsoon, all utterly forgettable. I mean, I had to Google search them up, because I was forgetting their names as I wrote them.

*No, I’m not done laughing about this. And neither should you.

Seriously, though, if you’re going to lie, at least make it moderately believable. Wolverine was a publicity monster for decades, and has three solo movies. You could’ve just said Marvel and Fox couldn’t hash it out this time, and that would’ve been more plausible. Even modern fans are aware of Mag-fuckin-neto, guys. Even the most casual comic fans are familiar with the X-Men. Shit, you could’ve just said, “Hey we just wanted to go in a different direction with this one and the X-Men didn’t really fit.” It’s still bull, but it’s more on the mark than what you went with.
