Marvel Heroes Has Been Shut Down

Marvel Heroes

FASERIP in peace.

Marvel and Disney have ended their relationship with Gazillion Entertainment. And, yes, that means that Marvel Heroes is shuffling off into the cold night. From an e-mail sent to numerous outlets from a Disney representative:

We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.

Sort of a Marvel-based Diablo, Marvel Heroes managed to last for 4 years on PC. The freemium model let you purchase heroes like Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, and Ninja Spider-Man, as well as costumes for them from across their careers. It even got releases on PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year.

But things behind the scenes weren’t as good as you’d imagine. Multiple community updates were missed over the past month. Tie-in content for Thor Ragnarok that was expected simply didn’t happen, either. As it turned out, there had been three waves of layoffs. Gazillion Entertainment isn’t doing that well.

So, godspeed, Gazillion Entertainment. And, uh, here’s hoping no one dropped any money on the game in the last few days.
