1981-2021
“Im-a tired, bye bye”
There’s nothing for it: this is the last day to buy most of the Super Mario 35th anniversary games. And despite all sorts of responses from fans, Nintendo refuses to budge. Per the official Mario 35th anniversary Twitter account:
The Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Campaign ends today, March 31st. We would like to thank all who participated.
Mario will continue to power up, so please continue to support us.#スーパーマリオ35周年
With the end of the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Campaign, the production, sales and service of some products will end in March 2021. For more details, please visit here. #スーパーマリオ35周年
Nintendo has gone on record by saying that any remaining in-store stock will be sold until depleted, and previously bought download codes will still be redeemable. Amazon US has already stopped selling download codes for Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and it’s not hard to imagine that physical stock of the game will soon get tight.
Naturally, the memes reached a fevered pitch.
But don’t think the axe is just falling on the digital copies alone. According to VGC, Nintendo’s also pulling all physical copies from the shelves of their Tokyo store.
So, yeah, very soon Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. 35, Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., and the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary merch collection will be a thing of the past. And also, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, for some reason. Don’t know why that one shared Mario’s death date.
