According to The Hollywood Reporter, Madonna has signed on to direct an adaptation of Rebecca Walker’s novel Ade: A Love Story, described as an “interracial romance.”
Via THR:
Although very much a love story, many of the themes and subjects in Ade are those Madonna has touched upon in envelope-pushing ways at the height of her music career. Sex, religion, race, lesbianism all figure into the story one way or another. Already a fan of the book, Madonna also provided a blurb that appeared in promotional materials.
Madonna has always explored race relations, like in the video for “Justify My Love,” her book Sex, or when she called her white son “dis nigga” on Instagram.
Ade: A Love Story will be Madonna’s third film, following the blockbusters Filth and Wisdom (which starred the lead singer of Gogol Bordello) and W.E. (which was based on a subplot from The King’s Speech).
