Shoe companies snapping up basketball players for sponsorships is nothing new. Ever since Michael Jordan revolutionized the basketball shoe, every player with some modicum of talent/popularity will be offered a deal at some point in their career. Still, most of these outing tend to be pretty… how do i put this; generic.
So when adidas announced that they would be releasing a pair of kicks for basketball star, Damian Lillard, I didn’t think much of it. My feelings quickly changed when I found out that adidas went one step further than most by emblazoning the Portland International Airport carpet pattern onto the D Lillard 1. While I haven’t worn a pair of basketball shoes since grade school, I’m definitely considering picking up a pair just for the fun of it, and because my job means a lot on travel from convention to convention, odds are I’ll end up in Portland in the near future.
Adidas made the following statement regarding their new shoes.
adidas and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard today unveiled a commemorative PDX Carpet inspired edition of the D Lillard 1 basketball shoe. Paying homage to Portland International Airport’s iconic teal print carpet the shoe is a must have for fans of Damian and all things Portland.
The PDX carpet pattern is printed across the shoe’s teal upper while the full-length adiprene+ midsole compliments a purple tonal snakeskin print on the heel, toecap and TECHFIT booty. The purple laces feature flecks of grey and “DAME” is printed on the right tongue while “#PDXCARPET” is printed on the left.
The “PDX Carpet” D Lillard 1’s will Saturday at the Foot Locker at Washington Square. You can also find them online via Eastbay.com and over on adidas.com for the not insane price of $125. Check out some additional shots of the new shows below.
