L’Oréal Perso Creates Customizable Skincare And Cosmetics On The Spot

L'Oréal

Yeah, I don’t know why I’m covering this one, either.

At CES, L’Oréal unveiled their Perso unit. The AI-powered system, developed by the L’Oréal Technology Incubator, is capable of dispensing custom skincare and cosmetic formulas on the spot, with those formulas becoming more personalized over time as you use Perso. Their CES showing was just phase one for Perso, though, according to L’Oréal. Right now, it’s just skincare; the future holds lipstick and foundation capabilities.

Building on our deep scientific heritage and leadership in innovation, L’Oréal is once again leveraging advanced technology to create smart beauty products and services that answer the needs of our consumers and offer them near-limitless personalization and precision. We are committed to making L’Oréal the leader in Beauty Tech – and Perso is the next step in that exciting journey.

The system utilizes cartridges to provide the base materials. Users need only open the app on their phones, take a picture, and the app will handle much of the rest. It not only analyzes the picture, but also uses location data to determine environmental status, such as humidity or UV exposure. It even adjusts for morning and evening application. The only other thing the user need do is specify any personal concerns, such as fine lines, dark spots, pigmentation, pore size, radiance, and dullness.

Perso’s future cosmetics will also feature such considerations. Notably, the app will take real-time trend information into account, as well as color matching. L’Oréal also has a service for the Perso’s cartridges. The carts are NFC tagged, making it so that you’ll know when they’re close to dry and it’s time to order more through the app. Perso is set to launch in 2021.
