Logitech’s Stock Takes A Hit Due To Titan Submarine Incident

Their stocks will go on.

Chances are pretty good you’ve been following the Titan Submarine incident. And if you have, then you’re probably familiar with the fact that they used a Logitech controller to pilot the sub; specifically, the $30 wireless Logitech F710.

Well, due to this association, Logitech’s stock took a hit on Wednesday. While it is possible to see the logic in it, though, it’s not entirely deserved. Luckily, their stock seems to be recovering as of Thursday night.

As for the F710, though, it’s got an uphill battle. No small number of Amazon reviews for the controller are trolling, often mentioning submarines. And particularly damning, even before the incident, many reviews mentioned that it would lose it’s wireless connection frequently. Not much of a surprise, though, for a nearly decade-and-a-half design. Logitech didn’t sponsor the construction of the Titan sub, and if it did, I’d imagine they’d send one of their higher end peripherals.

Personally, I have an even older Logitech controller that’s as constant as the northern star, and twice as sturdy. I’d still be using it if it supported more modern input API options.

As for the Titan sub, well, the CEO of OceanGate once went on record as calling safety “a waste” at some point. I’m just putting forward the idea that maybe we should lay off Logitech, when the real blame should probably land squarely on the dead submarine CEO.
