It’s Morbin time!
That’s right, Nintendo themselves have confirmed that a live-action Zelda film is on the way. The news comes from a press release over on the company’s Japanese site:
The film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., who has produced many mega hit films.
The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. The theatrical distribution of the film will be done worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.
Needless to say, there were reactions to this news.
Now, some of these aren’t all that fair. After all, who among us wouldn’t happily write, direct, and/or produce multiple box office bombs for Sony, like Morbius or Uncharted? That one’s not even fair of me, it’s a producer’s job to produce things, even if they turn out bad.
That said, even if you’re dooming on all of this, there’s a light (presumably of courage) at the end of the tunnel. After all, Nintendo isn’t known for allowing infinite freedom when it comes to their IP; at least, not anymore.
I mean, the Mario movie turned out alright. Kinda feel this might turn out better as an animated thing, but what do I know? Maybe there’ll be an epic dance battle against Ganon.
