With James Wan busy salvaging Fast and Furious 7, directing duties for Insidious: Chapter 3 had to go to somebody else. Luckily for fans of the first two films, that somebody is Leigh Whannell, who wrote both films (and co-starred as the ghost hunter Specs).
I loved both Insidious films. The first was structured and presented like a ’70s Hammer horror film that would have starred Peter Cushing, and Chapter 2 was more or less a feature-length homage to The Shining. It’s worth mentioning that Whannell also wrote Saw, Death Sentence, Dead Silence, and The Conjuring, which was so scary I crapped my pants while writing the title.
According to ScreenRant, Insidious: Chapter 3 will take a different approach than the last two, in that it won’t feature the Lambert family, which unfortunately means that Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne will not be returning. The film is scheduled to open April 3, 2015, with diaper sales skyrocketing shortly thereafter.
