Konami Explains That PS Plus Swapping Out PES 19 For Detroit: Become Human Was Sony’s Decision

My name is Connor. I’m the android sent by CyberLife.

So, PlayStation Plus‘s games this month were Horizon Chase Turbo and Detroit: Become Human. But that wasn’t originally the case. Previously, it was announced that one of the games would be Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 19, rather than Detroit. But at the last minute, PES 19 was dumped.

And, according to a statement Konami made to Gamespot, it wasn’t their decision.

This decision was made by Sony and so please make an inquiry to Sony

The European brand manager for PES, Lennart Bobzien, was also blindsided by the move.

I cannot really tell you what happened because I just found out today, in the morning when I opened my laptop. I can’t really explain.

As for Sony, in statements made to both Gamespot and Eurogamer, they confirmed that they made the decision “as a company”. But ultimately, they gave no actual reason for the swap.

We have decided to make a change to the PS Plus games lineup this month, and will be offering Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. This was a decision we decided to make as a company, and we apologise for any inconvenience.

Honestly, that just raises more questions. If they’d just said that they thought Detroit would be better received, or that it was business/money-related, or that they chose it to flick the Epic Store’s nose, that’d make sense. But that’s all just speculation because they didn’t say any of that. So maybe we’ll never know.

Either way, those of you with PS Plus get a great racing game in Horizon Chase Turbo. And you get both the best buddy cop game in Detroit: Become Human: Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as the world’s greatest SHAUN! simulator, Heavy Rain.
