King Of The Hill Revival In The Works By Mike Judge And Greg Daniels

King of the Hill

You’re entering a world of propane and propane accessories.

Turns out that, 12 years after it ended, King of the Hill is coming back. And, thankfully, both Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are involved. They announced that they would be bringing the beloved animated sitcom back via their newly formed Bandera Entertainment production company.

King of the Hill is just one of the projects lined up and Bandera. Among the others is a second run at a modern Beavis & Butt-head for Paramount+, Bad Crimes, a show starring Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus as FBI agents, an adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s Dykes To Watch Out reportedly involving Carrie Brownstein, a project focused on the works of tattoo/graffiti artist Mr. Cartoon, and an unnamed Sacha Baron Cohen kids show.

One of the negatives that could also be a strength is, well, some of the original cast simply can’t come back. Tom Petty (Lucky) and Brittany Murphy (Luann) are probably the first to come to mind, but over the past decade, a surprising number of the show’s cast has died. The core cast, however, is still alive and kicking.

The other thing is that King of the Hill wasn’t afraid to take on social issues that weren’t, for their day, terribly mainstream, much less easy to tackle, and that was to its benefit. A number of its original run episodes were the kind that would be a hard sell for a network now, and no, I’m not talking about Pigmalion. And that episode was pulled from rotation for several years. Let’s just say, you’ll know if they’re shying away from it, and leave it at that.

So on the one hand, this can be a great chance to see what happened to these characters in the intervening years (most scuttlebutt has said that they plan on having had time progress as it had in real life). The presence of Daniels on this project is also fortuitous; he’s had a line of success since the show ended. Indeed, part of what brought Bandera and this revival about was the discussions Daniels and Judge had at reunion panels for King of the Hill, reminiscing about their collaborations back then. On the other hand, oh boy, have a lot of reboots and revivals for things I’ve liked gone wrong. So, to put it in a more thematically appropriate way:
