Remember Jumanji? It was a good movie! You’re to young to remember. It was a good movie!
Sony Pictures is trying to revive Jumanji. Which is impressive; I was pretty sure Zathura would’ve put the kibosh on that. And so, recently, the trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle came out.
Anyway, board games are for old people. Yung’uns like them thar vidya games. So it’s gonna be filled with old video game tropes. Like Karen Gillian’s costume (she’s ready to Raid some Tombs, duh), which is somehow the most important thing to Polygon. And Polygon commenters.
The gimmick this time is that a bunch of carefully selected high school cliche’s find an Atari Playstari in the basement of their school. And with it, a cursed Jumanji cartridge and… Jumanji happens? They play it, get sucked in, and become the characters they chose, which are hilariously their physically diametric opposites. The nerd becomes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Hollywood Homely redhead becomes Karen Gillian, the stuck up bitchy cheerleader becomes Jack Black, and the Jock becomes Kevin Hart, playing Kevin Hart.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle comes out December 20 this year. Assuming we can all resist the urge to overanalyze a popcorn flick. I’ll probably do a flip if they have a Pitfall joke. Probably.
