Jim Carrey IS Dr. Robotnik.
Look, I say this as a fan of the games… well, most some of them. I don’t know why Paramount is making a Sonic the Hedgehog movie. There is literally nothing to gain from it, because this is not a story that works in movie form. Ever. And yes, I know that technically wasn’t a movie. Bite me.
My point is, I have no idea why they’re doing this other than that they think it will make money. And it might. Lord knows Sonic fans will buy shit they hate vociferously. But I’m even more confused by the casting. Because according to Deadline, Jim Carrey has been cast as Dr. Robotnik.
Yeah. Not really the actor I would’ve guessed.
Not that Jim Carrey’s a bad actor; he was in the stellar Man on the Moon, not to mention The Truman Show. That said, recent of late he’s acting a bit less, and has taken to painting and sketching. Specifically, that which currently occupies his thoughts:

Also, a very nice portrayal of our host, the man they call Ghost.
Regardless, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be a blend of live-action and CG, so I’m guessing Carrey will be in makeup of some sort. That said, I don’t know if those involved now the waters they’ve waded into. I’m pretty sure Sonic is one of the few franchises to have gotten someone maced over literally nothing. There’s no release date announced yet, so they’ve got time to figure out how to mange all of that.
