Come with me if you want to live.
Rejoice, Terminator fans! For, in between his blue alien cat FernGully movies, James Cameron is returning to the Terminator franchise. And he’s bringing Linda Hamilton back with him.
“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return. There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.” – James Cameron
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day. And of course Arnie will be back, too. But the film is also being used to pass the torch, in a sense, to a new generation of heroes.
We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters, but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it.
Cameron will be producing the yet unnamed Terminator film, while Deadpool‘s Tim Miller will direct. And while story details are under wraps, it’s probably a safe bet that the past 3 movies aren’t really going to count in any big way. Just, uh, don’t take any story tips from Bob Chipman, guys.
