In Memoriam: Mr Peanut, 1916-2020

Mr. Peanut

Rest in Peanuts

Planters ha confirmed that their long-time mascot, Mr. Peanut, is dead, at age 104.

Mr. Peanut died the way he lived; driving the Nutmobile off a cliff with passengers Wesley Snipes and Matt Walsh. Barely saving themselves by grabbing a branch hanging from the cliff face, they quickly found that their combined weight was too much for said branch. And so, to save Blade and Mike McLintock, Mr. Peanut let go. While initially it seemed he may have survived the fall, the Nutmobile exploded, surely killing him in a gas fire that would make Baby Mickey proud.

They never found the body, but I’m sure if they did, it would’ve been delicious, perhaps with a light dusting of salt.

In reality, this is all part of Planters upcoming Super Bowl ad campaign. And it’ll be big; Fox is charging $5.6 million per 30 seconds of ad time. The game is on February 3rd, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Hock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Of course, everyone poured one out on Twitter for everyone’s favorite bemonocled legume:

Just drink an Iblis Trigger, you’ll be fine.

No word on what that smug-ass anime girl Wendy would have to say about this, but she’d probably… roast it.

I’ll see myself out.
