Hundreds Of Sealed Nintendo And Sega Games Found In A Nebraska Storage Facility

A reseller found them? Why, I’m shocked!

Ah, Nebraska. Home of cornfields and, apparently, at least one failed game store that simply shoved all their unsold stock into a storage space.

And that’s where Gameroom comes in. Gameroom is a reseller, and as they describe their encounter with this modern treasure hoard:

When a Nebraska video game store closed in 1994, its inventory was packed up and placed in storage. 27 years later, when this video game archive is rediscovered, Gameroom went to investigate. What we discovered was unbelievable.

The collection includes hundreds factory sealed SNES, Sega Genesis, Saturn, 3DO, and Sega CD games.

While there’s obviously a lot of common stuff (that has simply gotten more scarce over time due to hardware failure and retention by owners), there are also a number of much rarer games found. Notably, a factory sealed copy of the always-in-high-demand Chrono Trigger, as well as the likes of Final Fantasy III, Turtles In Time, and Sunset Riders.

Gameroom has yet to detail what the plans are for this absolute bounty of 90’s games. They have stated that they’re documenting and preserving everything first, though.

If there’s one thing that’s worthy of note, though, they might not be correct about the store in question closing in 1994. The collection not only contains Chrono Trigger, but also a number of Sega Saturn games. This is important, as CT came out in March of 95, and the Saturn released in May of 95, so I’d say their guess was off by a year. And a commenter mentions as much:

Good God, which of us hasn’t dreamed of finding such a thing, though? Probably not going to make a dent in the completely ruined retro games market though, I’d wager.
