Hori Will Make a Switch Joy-Con with a Proper D-Pad

Rejoice!

More than a few have been dissatisfied with the Joy-Con d-pad situation. Including Hideki Kamiya (Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, among others), who has in the past made a few comments about that feature. And, more recently joked that if Nintendo doesn’t make a joy-con with a real d-pad and get the Virtual Console going on the Switch, he might lose motivation to work on Bayonetta 3. And, I guess, that’s where Hori comes to the rescue.

Even as a young man, Hideki Kamiya had more style than you ever will. Deal with it.

According to a Famitsu article, Hori is making a Joy-Con with a proper d-pad. Supposedly, the left-side only Joy-Con will launch some time in July, and retail for ¥2,678 (about £18/$25). The controller won’t have the motion capabilities to the standard Joy-Con, but that’s not a big deal. You’re buying it for the d-pad, and the kinds of games that need that tend not to have motion controls (like, say, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection).

Hori’s well known for making some pretty high-quality peripherals, too, so I’d bet it will be pretty much what the doctor ordered. You just have to wait a few months. Hopefully, Nintendo can get the whole Virtual Console thing sorted out by then.
