Eat Standing: A Film
It’s one of those things everyone thought to be inevitable. And as a matter of fact, it’s a surprise it took so long. But, Hideo Kojima has now opened his own movie studio subsidiary under Kojima Productions.
I mean, hell, in his Twitter bio, he describes his body as being 70% movies.
Heading up the division, aside from the man himself, is Riley Russell, formerly of PlayStation. As Russell told GamesIndustry.biz:
The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music and film, as well as the more familiar games industry.

The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture. Although we are a global organization, the new business development team will be centred [sic] in Los Angeles, CA. We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the very best entertainment talent we can, across all of the entertainment industries.
Kojima himself has yet to comment publicly on the new division. He focused on what’s important, like taking note Mads Mikkelson’s birthday, as well as retweet those giving positive buzz to Death Stranding. Though he had been tweeting out odds and ends that may have pointed to the new film division of Kojima Productions.
Adding to Russell’s comment above, Kojima Productions’ business development manager Yoshiko Fukuda said:
Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever changing storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.

As to what that means overall is anyone’s guess. Could be more to do with Death Stranding. Could be more beyond that. We don’t even know what Hideo Kojima’s next project is, yet. At least you’ve got Death Stranding: Director’s Cut to tide you over.
