Hey Parents YouTube will launch a dedicated app for kids on Feb. 23

YouTube Kids

You read that right parents (especially you Christine!), YouTube is set to launch a standalone app that will only show kid-friendly shows and content from YouTube. But you’ll have to temper your excitement as the app will only be rolling out for Android phones and tablets which makes sense as Google is the people behind that operating system.

This new application will be hitting phones/tablets on February 23 so we will have to wait on how it functions, but USA Today did get a behind the scenes look at it in action.Users will open up to see eight large tiles, each focusing on popular kid-friendly video series that is currently on YouTube. Five symbols will be shown at the top of the screen that will shuffle kids to various shows, music, and educational programming. Kids will also have a search function for those old enough to grasp that concept.

This is more than just a stripped down version of YouTube, but offers a lot of features that actually make it a fun concept. Gone are the comment sections under videos (score!) and all the icons and tiles a large, making it easier on kids to access content.

Even better is that parents will now be able to set viewing timer for there kids. Once the amount of time set runs out a parental password will need to be entered before your little one can get back to whatever mystery egg is being opened next.
