Here’s the first trailer for the upcoming DC animated movie ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’

DC might finally be pulling itself out of the much with the upcoming live-action Wonder Woman film that is getting some good early buzz, but the studio hasn’t had the best track record since the Dark Knight trilogy. That said, the animated side of the coin is a much different story, as the animated films have manged to be quite well received while still doing the darker thing that the live-action moves want.

I’ll point to these animated adventures not being washed out affairs shot with a blue filter, and instead relying on, you know, color, but that’s just one comic fans opinion. The latest animated film puts Harley Quinn in the spotlight, teaming her up with Batman to punch bad guys into warm jelly. Entertainment Weekly got an exclusive look at the film (check it out below) with the first trailer that gives fans a taste at what they can expect.

The story looks to revolve around Batman, Harley Quinn, and Nightwing working to stop Poison Ivy and, of all people, the Floronic Man. He’s a pretty minor character who actually appeared in the terrible Batman & Robin film in his unmutated state. He’s the guy who created Bane via his Venom toxin and Poison Ivy by pushing her into some set dressing. In the comics he can mentally control plant life, so it makes sense to pair him with Ivy.

Fans will note that while Kevin Conroy is back as Batman, the supporting cast of Nightwing and Quinn are under new voice talent. At the very least Harley is sporting her Harlequin outfit from the Batman Animated series. In fact, the whole thing lifts the art style from that venerable cartoon series to great effect. The best part is that the film looks to have a lot of humor because sometimes comics should, you know, be a little fun.

Batman and Harley Quinn should be out later this year on VOD and DVD/Blu-ray.
