The fine folks over at Toxic Games today released footage of the Q.U.B.E. 2 demo that has been playable at events including Gamescom, PAX West and EGX. The work in progress footage shows off an early section of the game, introducing the player to the functions of each colored cube. In Q.U.B.E. 2, as opposed to the prequel, the player now has the power to decide which coloured cubes are placed into the sequel’s beautifully realized and varied environments.
The original Q.U.B.E. was a good bit of fun when it released way back in 2011. The title stands for Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion and is a physics-based puzzle game in a first-person perspective. As a puzzle game it worked really well, but one thing a lot of people took issue with was the lack of tangible story. Sounds nutty, but after Portal hit the world, people began expecting a good story in their FPS puzzle game.
Q.U.B.E. 2 puts players in the shoes of British archaeologist, Amelia Cross, on a beautiful yet mysterious alien planet. With the help of fellow survivor, Emma, Amelia must face the challenges of the Q.U.B.E. in the hope of finding a way back home. Q.U.B.E. 2 retains the shifting, environmental puzzles of the original but wraps the action around Amelia’s own intimate story and her quest for survival.
Q.U.B.E. 2 is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in early 2018. Q.U.B.E. 2
