Begun, the Loot Box war has.
Look, the loot box situation was already out of hand, to a degree. But Star Wars Battlefront 2 arguably made it worse. Especially since it spurred Hawaii Rep. Chris Lee into action. And no he’s laying out a plan to deal with this “gambling” problem by going right for the legs. He’s outlined it all in his video below:
If you’re looking for a TL;DW:
- Prohibiting the sale of video games containing “gambling mechanisms” to anyone under the age of 21
- Accountability element: forcing publishers to disclose percentage rates for drops
The video description also asks viewers to contact their Congressmen and Representatives on the matter. Now that the law is on this, the industry can’t just regulate itself; that would’ve been a preventative measure, and we’re long past that. And for every company employing the loot box model in a fair and orderly fashion, well, they pretty much have EA to blame. They’re sinking further and further into the crapper over this.
