GTA Remastered Trilogy On The Way; Will Remove Original Versions From Stores

Ah shit, here we go again.

You may or may not remember the suit between Take-Two and some fans reverse-engineering GTA 3/Vice City (Modern Vintage Gamer had a more sombering approach than I did). Well, it’s now super relevant, because Rockstar has formally announced a GTA Remastered Trilogy, featuring GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for current and last gen consoles.

And GTA Remastered Trilogy is meant to be pretty much what you’d expect. Visual improvements that don’t destroy the original look, as well as improvements to gameplay and the UI. Granted, the video as posted shows nothing. So about all anyone does know is that it’s planned to release before the end of the year, and that a mobile version will be out sometime in 2022.

The downside, however, is that the original versions will be removed from all digital storefronts featuring them, with the remasters essentially taking their place. Which means that, if you want or prefer the originals to the remaster for some reason, you’re shit out of luck… unless

As for the suit, well, it’s hard not to read an ulterior motive into it, regardless of if there was one to begin with or not. After all, why buy a remastered version from Take-Two when you can upgrade what you already have for free?
