Well, good news if you already own a Chromecast Ultra: You can get 3 months of Stadia Pro for free thanks to Google’s newest promotion. Here’s what you need to get that 3 months:
- Own a Chromecast Ultra
- Opt to receive promotional emails from Google
And that’s it. Do note that you don’t need to buy a new Chromecast Ultra to get in on the promotion. You simply need to own one; an important distinction, as buying one just for 3 months of Stadia Pro would still leave you in the hole for ~$40 (Stadia’s $10/month, Chromecast Ultra is $69). As for restrictions, that’s unclear, though you’d imagine that if you’re in one of the 14 countries the platform is in, you’d be good.
This is Google’s first promotion for their game streaming service. And it’s technically a deal; normally, the only way to even access the service is to either get a buddy pass from a friend that has it, or pay $129 for the Premiere Edition bundle.
That said, the real cost is in the games and bandwidth spent. You’re paying $60 a pop for almost everything in the Stadia library, even for games that might be $15-$20 on another, more traditional, platform. And, bandwidth; let’s just say you’re going to find the limitations of your internet connection. Hardcore.
