GOG.com makes “Aliens versus Predator” available for FREE

“Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000,” the cult-classic, sci-fi, first-person shooter, is available for free on GOG.com for 48 hours, as the next stage of beta tests for GOG Galaxy multiplayer client and services launches. Hasbro classics including Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment finally available for Linux as GOG.com hits the 100 mark of Linux-compatible entries in their catalog.

The DRM-free online store for classic and new games is edging closer to launching its multiplayer client and services, GOG Galaxy. As part of the next phase of testing, GOG.com wants gamers to try out their GOG Galaxy infrastructure with an action-packed FPS classic. It’s simple: get your free copy of Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000, go online using GOG Galaxy, and you can play with other Galaxy users. Rebellion’s acclaimed horror shooter is the second game to be beta-tested, after GOG.com, together with CD Projekt RED, gave away over 150.000 keys for the Witcher Adventure Game in July.

“We’re ready to take in more gamers, and AvP seemed like a natural choice: it’s high up on our community wishlist, and it’s definitely one of the all-time best FPS titles. It also allows for testing Galaxy in a more dynamic environment,” explains Piotr Karwowski, GOG.com’s VP of Online Tech.

To get a free copy of Aliens versus Predator all gamers need to do is sign up for the beta test through GOG.com’s website, during the next 48 hours, starting at 10.00 AM GMT  on Wednesday, October 15. The game is theirs to keep and will remain on each gamer’s virtual shelf after the beta tests end. Beta keys distribution will begin in the next few days.

Additionally, Galaxy testers will soon be able to play AvP with their Steam friends using GOG Galaxy’s cross-play feature, as the game is scheduled to receive a dedicated cross-compatibility update on Steam.

Meanwhile GOG.com have been hard at work to deliver on their recent promise to Linux users: with the addition of a new batch of Linux-compatible titles GOG.com has now 100+ Linux games in its catalog. Among the new additions gamers can find both unforgettable classics and recent hits, including Hasbro D&D RPGs Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate 2, and Planescape: Torment, last years award-winning indie hit Papers’ Please, the new Double Fine adventure Broken Age, and many more!
