Why not? Dylan did.
This morning, General Motors announced that they plan to begin phasing out their Gasoline powered vehicles in 2023. They plan for all of their vehicles to be electric eventually.
General Motors believes in an all-electric future. Although that future won’t happen overnight, GM is committed to driving increased usage and acceptance of electric vehicles through no-compromise solutions that meet our customers’ needs. – Mark Reuss, GM Head of Product
They’re not alone, either. Many large automotive companies, such as Volvo, Aston Martin, and Jaguar Land Rover, have made similar announcements. That’s not to say they don’t have any hurdles. Battery technology is going to need some hard evolution over the next few years. Not to mention reasonable means of electrical generation to meet new, increased demand. All of this means nothing if fossil fuels are still the dominant means of production; they’re placing hopes on the likes of hydrogen fuel cells.
As far as the immediate future, General Motors has 2 electric models coming out next year. Those will be followed up by another 18 leading up to 2023. They’ve made it clear they’re in this for the long haul, so buckle up.
