GameStop Has a Tenuous Grasp On Rewards Vis-a-vis Black Friday Hours For Employees

GameStop

Reggie, you’re our only hope. Please stop them.

GameStop, it seems, never really stops with the gaffes. They recently announced an employee challenge that tasks their various stores to submit their best Tik Tok (ughh) dance video set to UB40’s Red Red Wine. But, I mean, sure, whatever, fun is subjective, right? The kicker here is the prizes for winning the challenge.

The winning store gets the following:

  • An Amazon Echo 8
  • An Echo Auto
  • A $100 Visa gift card
  • 10 additional labor hours for use during the week of Black Friday

Good luck to the winning store when it comes to figuring out how to share all that shit. For what it’s worth, the contest, sponsored by Incisiv, is no longer listed on their employee contests page. The really galling part, though, was the 10 extra labor hours, as emphasized. That’s called overtime, GameStop, and it’s not a prize. It’s something you’re supposed to pay for when your employees put in more work to get things done than the normal day allots (and it’s also something you don’t pay for because of course you don’t, you’re GameStop). And just in case you think I’m pulling this out of my ass, here’s a screenshot from the cached version of the page, because there’s no telling when the cache will magically disappear.

Really. It only took them nearly, what, 20 years and 9 monst of a global pandemic to stop gutting games and come up with a solution markedly inferior to literally every other retailer that sells games. Baby steps, I guess.
